For your convenience, and to avoid unnecessary waiting, we run an appointment system for the main King George Surgery on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Appointments can usually be booked in advance up to 6 weeks ahead. Appointments are made by telephoning or calling at the surgery between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. Please limit your appointment to one person and one problem. If you think that your problem will take longer or if you have more than one problem, please inform the receptionist and ask for a longer appointment. Do let the surgery know as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment. Please phone (01438) 361111. If you need to see a doctor for a medically urgent reason at the surgery, telephone as soon as possible after 8.00 am. If there are no appointments available, the receptionist may ask you to wait at the end of the surgery so that you may see the first doctor available. Please tell the receptionist when you arrive. Feverish children brought to the surgery for an appointment will, of course, be seen as soon as possible. Infectious patients may be directed to a separate waiting area. Please tell the receptionist when you arrive.
There are certain problems that may not need a face-to-face consultation with the doctor. These may include simple advice, a minor illness, discussing a hospital letter, discussing changes in medication, discussing abnormal test results, cystitis etc. We hope to deal with these problems more efficiently by having formal telephone consultations. If you feel that you have a problem that could be dealt with over the telephone, you can ask the receptionist to book a telephone consultation. These will be at set times initially and will be scheduled for 5 minutes. You will need to inform the receptionist of your contact number where you can be reached at the set time. Please keep your phone line open between 10 and 10.30am, and the doctor will call you back as near to the arranged time as they can. Please ensure that you do not have any bar on incoming calls (our phone number comes up as anonymous).
If you are referred to a hospital clinic, but have not received your appointment within four weeks, please inform the surgery Secretary. We may not know of any delay in your being seen unless you tell us. Patients with referrals to oncology or radiology can get familiar with hospital procedures and equipment they may encounter by visiting the Virtual Hospital Departments of the Royal College of Radiologists. This is a daily service in the Surgery for blood tests, thus saving further trips to hospital. Please make your appointment with the receptionist. Please discuss with your doctor BEFORE making arrangements, as consultants require a referral letter.
