Please remember that OUTSIDE OFFICE HOURS the Doctors are available FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ONLY. For your convenience we run a walk-in surgery for new medical emergencies Monday to Friday at 8.30 am, no appointment needed. You need to be at the surgery by 8.30 am. On arrival please report to reception. Patients attending with a non-urgent problem will be asked to book a normal appointment.
For your convenience, and to avoid unnecessary waiting, we run an appointment system for the main King George Surgery on weekdays and Saturday mornings. Appointments can usually be booked in advance up to 6 weeks ahead. Appointments are made by telephoning or calling at the surgery between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. Please limit your appointment to one person and one problem. If you think that your problem will take longer or if you have more than one problem, please inform the receptionist and ask for a longer appointment. Do let the surgery know as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment. Please phone (01438) 361111. If you need to see a doctor for a medically urgent reason at the surgery, telephone as soon as possible after 8.00 am. If there are no appointments available, the receptionist may ask you to wait at the end of the surgery so that you may see the first doctor available. Please tell the receptionist when you arrive. Feverish children brought to the surgery for an appointment will, of course, be seen as soon as possible. Infectious patients may be directed to a separate waiting area. Please tell the receptionist when you arrive.
There are certain problems that may not need a face-to-face consultation with the doctor. These may include simple advice, a minor illness, discussing a hospital letter, discussing changes in medication, discussing abnormal test results, cystitis etc. We hope to deal with these problems more efficiently by having formal telephone consultations. If you feel that you have a problem that could be dealt with over the telephone, you can ask the receptionist to book a telephone consultation. These will be at set times initially and will be scheduled for 5 minutes. You will need to inform the receptionist of your contact number where you can be reached at the set time. Please keep your phone line open between 10 and 10.30am, and the doctor will call you back as near to the arranged time as they can. Please ensure that you do not have any bar on incoming calls (our phone number comes up as anonymous). Examinations for insurance, HGV, PSV, sport etc. can be arranged at special times. The receptionist will tell you the fees involved.
If you are too unwell to attend the surgery and require a visit, please make the request between 8.00 am and 10.00 am when possible, as this will ensure the visiting doctor has your records. If you are able to get to the surgery, please do so. You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or at our reception. For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will need to see the doctor for him to issue a sickness certificate (F.med3) and for any subsequent renewal certificate.
Prescriptions may be dispensed for our 'eligible' patients (those who live more than one mile from a chemist, and live in rural areas) at our own in-house dispensary.
