The GP Patient Satisfaction Survey 2009

The Government carried out a national survey last year in order to assess patients’ level of satisfaction with their GP surgery. Out of 326 questionnaires sent to our patients, 147 were returned completed. The results for King George Surgery are as follows:

94% found it easy getting an appointment with the practice nurse

88% were satisfied with the overall care provided by the practice

85% said that they were able to see a doctor on the same day or the next 2 days that the surgery was open. We scored very well against the PCT average

79% had a discussion with the doctor or nurse about how best to deal with a long standing health problem

78% said that they were able to see their preferred doctor. We scored very well against the PCT average

76% were satisfied with the surgery opening hours

54% said that they were able to book an appointment more than 2 days in advance

35% said they found it easy to get through on the phone. We acknowledge that this needed improving and we have addressed the matter with a new telephone system (see details below)

The number of patients registered with us is approximately 14,500 and continues to rise. Although we have a good reputation we are always seeking to improve upon the services that we provide.

New Telephone System

We installed a new telephone system last year and there are now 3 times as many lines coming into the practice. Getting through has been easier and we are dealing with more queries over the phone. On a Monday it is not unusual for us to deal with over 300 calls

Extended Opening Hours

Unlike other local practices, we have been offering Extended Hours for 18 months now, which means that we can offer appointments on Saturday mornings (a great advantage for those patients who work away during the week). We do feel that we cover the demand very well and if patients really do need to be seen urgently, they are always seen on the day – nobody is turned away

Telephone Consultations

We are also offering more telephone consultations in the morning and afternoon. If you feel that your problem can be dealt with by telephone in a 5 minute slot, then this can be booked in advance

Continuity of Care

What surveys consistently do show is that patients value the continuity and familiarity that comes with being able to build up a relationship with their doctor and their practice. We value this too, and we hope you agree and will continue to support us as we strive to maintain consistently high standards.
